The Thai ethnic people frequently say, "No xòe means no love! No fun without xòe! "when they mention the signature xòe dancing. As a practice that has been preserved and passed down through generations, the Thai Dance - Xòe, is a shining heritage of ethnic culture, a sign of hospitality, and a legacy of many other ethnic groups in northwestern Vietnam.

Xòe Thai Dance – Pride of the Thai people

Xòe is performed on festivals, wedding days, and celebrations such as harvest season or labor results. "Kham khan Moi lau" - an invitation to neighbors to sip rice wine - is one of the most basic ones. Anyone who comes to visit the residence is welcomed with respect and sincerity, according to Thai culture.

'Kham khen' (holding hands) is another common Xòe dance that was first created during the labor days. Everyone holds hands and dances around the fire upon hunting an animal or rejoicing with family members. These are also the first fundamental moves for the creation of additional Xòe dances. 'Kham khen' also symbolizes unity among the community, a tight bond that is presented through the holding hand gestures: They overcome hardships together, and they celebrate success together.

The "Nhom khan," also known as the tossing scarfs dance, is the most joyous and vibrant Xòe dance. Starting along with the rise of cotton weaving, the "Nhom khan" dance expresses people's delight with the fruits of their labor while also displaying the dexterity of Thai young girls' hands, with traditional brocade weaved on hand-made scarfs.
