The soulful dish of Vietnam - Pho

Pho and the origin

Pho is commonly thought to have originated in the early 20th century. Chinese and French cooking heavily influenced the dish, and while many theories exist about the dish's deep roots, one thing is sure: pho originated in North Vietnam.

Flavor of Pho

The delicious flavor of Pho does not lie only in one component, it is a perfect harmony of good ingredients, sophisticated steps, and pure love for the dish. Thach Lam, a famous Vietnamese  writer, captured the essence of Pho in his book "Ha Noi with 36 streets and wards”:

"Pho is a special dish of Hanoi, not because only Hanoi has it, but only Pho in Hanoi is the most delicious. The broth is clear and sweet, the noodle strip is flexible but not crushed, the beef is crunchy but not chewy, and the accompaniment of chili, lemon, onion, fresh herbs, and black pepper makes it just right ”.

Pho at Avana

Pho is by far our most popular dish at Green Chili. Its broth is cooked for at least 8 hours with beef bones, fish sauce, coriander seeds, star anise, cinnamon, black peppercorns, grilled onions, and gingers under the secret recipe from Avana’s Chef, for a magnificent rich taste.

Meanwhile, every 15 minutes, our Chef removes any impurities from the surface to keep the soup pure and clear. "One of the most flavorful Pho I've ever tasted" is the most common compliment we receive from our guests about Avana's Pho.

Besides the signature Beef Pho, Avana also serves Chicken Pho in Green Chili Restaurant every other day. The broth in a bowl of chicken pho is naturally sweet and seasoned with basil and cilantro.

Add-on condiments are also an indispensable highlight in Pho, therefore, Avana Retreat has sourced the best spices to compliment our Pho - Muong Khuong chili sauce. A specialty of the Northwestern region, Muong Khuong chili sauce is made from fresh and local chili peppers. The spicy, bold taste of Muong Khuong chili sauce is unforgettable to those who have tried it and is even more memorable when it highlights Avana's Pho.
