Where Nature Flourishes Anew

Nestled in northern Vietnam's mountainous region, we're so proud to be surrounded by incredible biodiversity. There are countless species recorded nearby, including many that are critically endangered or endangered. Our journey began by transforming the depleted land, and we've converted a significant portion into thriving mixed lowland forests. We've also carefully restored the remaining areas to traditional irrigated rice paddies and lush green spaces, truly showing our strong commitment to ecological recovery.

Biological Life

We're thrilled to tell you that Guardians of Earth (GoE) visited our retreat in May 2025 and reported on its incredible biodiversity. Their findings are truly humbling: our 151 recorded species represent a remarkable 74% of all known life in the region, a testament to careful surveying. While insects are a significant focus, we're enthusiastic about conducting even more targeted surveys for groups like reptiles, birds, and fungi, aiming to deepen our understanding and boost community engagement through captivating stories.

At Avana Retreat, we truly believe in biocultural health, and you can see it firsthand every day as three amazing indigenous groups lovingly nurture their sacred forests and agroforests.

Daily Conversations with Locals

We're all about genuine connections here, and that starts with our amazing team – 98% of whom are the locals from the Thai, H'Mong, and Muong ethnic groups. We're also passionate about keeping the indigenous culture alive and sharing it through traditional dances and workshops led by local artisans. This really helps us create an open space to celebrate their unique heritage and shared love for the land.

Everyday Work That Sustains Local Communities

Beyond empowering the local economy through our hiring practices, we are dedicated to creating a sustainable community by implementing green programs. Through initiatives like our trash collecting day, the Avana Marathon, and various volunteer programs, we’re working with the community to promote environmental awareness and support local well-being.

Plastic-free lifestyle

We've ditched single-use plastics entirely – from swapping out plastic keycards for old-school mechanical ones to using refillable glass and stainless-steel dispensers for everything from shampoo to drinking water. It's all about showing how simple, community-minded choices can lead to huge wins for our planet and honor our traditions.

Architecture, Culture & Tribute

Driven by a desire to honor indigenous architectural brilliance, all 36 bungalows and villas here are crafted with the expert guidance of artisans from three minority groups. This ensures every space, every detail, truly embodies the rich cultures and unique identities of the local people.
